Cuccinelli Calls on Virginia Delegation to Support Upton Bill

Statement

Date: Oct. 29, 2013

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli today is calling on all members of the Virginia delegation to sign onto legislation introduced by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) that would allow Americans to keep their health insurance coverage, regardless of their status after ObamaCare is fully implemented.

"In 2009, in his zeal to secure a major political victory, President Obama sold the American public on the Affordable Care Act under false pretenses. This week we discovered that the President knew he was misleading the American people when he said everyone could keep their current insurance coverage even after the law took effect. Virginia job creators, workers and families are already frustrated by the job-crushing law, which is driving up premiums and forcing employers -- including some state agencies -- to kick their employees or family members off of company plans. It makes matters worse that the White House, led by the president himself, tried to fool them. And now, with just days to go in the race for Governor, my opponent--who thought ObamaCare didn't go far enough--will be campaigning with the President.

"To right this wrong, Congress should immediately pass Congressman Upton's legislation to ensure that Americans will be able to keep their preferred insurance coverage no matter what. I'm calling on every member of the Virginia delegation to sign onto the legislation as well." - Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli
